Mavic
Mavic have been designing and building wheels for the greater part of the 20th Century and their tradition of excellence and dedication to the sport of cycling continues right into the 21st Century.
Two brothers, Léon and Laurent Vielle, created a 'nickel-plating' business in 1889. A little later on Charles Idoux and Lucien Chanel ventured into the 'manufacture and the sale of spare parts for bicycles'. While the Vieille brothers founded Etablissements Métallurgiques du Rhône (EMR) with the brand name AVA, Charles and Lucien created MAVIC, Manufacture d'Articles Vélocipédiques Idoux et Chanel (Idoux & Chanel's Manufactory of Articlesfor Velocipedes). The common factor between these two businesses was their President, Henry Gormand.
In the 1934 Tour de France, Antonin Magne tested a new Duralumin dished rim, with an arrangement called 'eyelets' that were designed to carry the stress of the spokes on the lower and upper walls of the rim. The rims were kept a secret - they were banned by the rules at the time and so were painted to look like wooden rims. Antonin Magne won the yellow jeresey that year.
Today Mavic makes the broadest range of cycling wheels of any manufacturer in the world. From track to triathlon, from road racing to touring, from cross country to cyclocross and even extreme mountain biking. Whatever your discipline, stop in at iBike and see Mavic's line of 2005 wheels.
